Topics covered include the building of strong, healthy bones during childhood and adolescence; the role of exercise and nutrition in the maintenance of healthy bones; and diagnosis and treatment options for the osteoporotic patient.

90% of foot problems in women are the result of wearing improper footwear, and are thus, preventable. Learn the difference between supportive and unsupportive shoes, how to fit a shoe to your foot, and how to avoid and recognize the most common female foot problems.

| Obesity
More than 60% of Americans are currently categorized as overweight or obese. The health and healthcare consequences are staggering. The average annual healthcare costs for the obese are more than 50% higher when compared to people of normal weight. Obesity has just overtaken smoking as the number one preventable health risk. The overweight and obese are at increased risk for diabetes; cardiovascular disease including hypertension, high cholesterol and altered good vs. bad cholesterol ratios; elevated triglycerides; elevated C-reactive protein; Metabolic Syndrome/Syndrome X; and certain cancers. This lecture focuses on the role of Diet and Fat Cells on hormonal regulation of energy utilization and storage in the predisposition to becoming overweight. The goal is to give the patient a working knowledge of the hormonal pathways to obesity in order to effect
positive changes in nutritional choices and lifestyle.

Steroid Abuse in Athletes More Athletes were suspended or banned from competition or stripped of their medals at the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics than during any prior Olympics in history. The use of performance-enhancing drugs at the high school and college levels is increasing also. This program defines the health risks associated with the use of these agents, in order that the student-athlete can make educated choices regarding the use of performance-enhancing drugs. Of special interest to Athletic Directors and Coaches. |

Addresses how activities of daily living affect spinal health, and health in general. Topics include postural habits, sleep postures and habits, exercise, work habits/ergonomics, stress management, and nutrition. Proper lifting techniques will be covered. The Biomechanics of Common Golf Injuries
Golf has been the sport with the
highest incidence of low back injuries for many years. The repetitive,
unilateral, combined flexion and rotation of the lumbar spine is the perfect
recipe for low back pain. This program educates the golfer about proper
spinal and swing mechanics and addresses other common golf-related
musculoskeletal issues. Golf fitness and prevention strategies are also
covered.
